Trinity Stamps Cupcake Card

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing a super fun cupcake card from Trinity Stamps. I love this die set! It’s adorable and I can see myself using this for a lot of birthday cards. This is a 9-piece die set that allows you to customize a sweet cupcake shaped card, or you could use the cupcake on a card front. The shaped card will fit in an A2 sized envelope, but might have to be mailed in an A7 sized envelope depending on how much your candles/decorations stick out (if you use them).

I had a lot of fun putting this card together with a close friend in mind as the recipient. The cupcake wrapper allows for a lot of customization, you could die cut this from metallic paper, glitter paper, patterned papers, or you could even make your own pattern! I took that approach for mine and used Concord & 9th Sketched Dots Turnabout Stamp and stamped it three times on sorbet cardstock and clear heat embossed. I love the added texture this adds to the wrapper (which already has a nice amount of texture due to the embossing on the die). The possibilities are endless to making your own patterned cupcake wrapper- I raided my stash and have a couple of other ideas:

  • Concord & 9th’s Turnabout Stamps are perfect for this. The others in my stash that I thought of using were the Paint Swash turnabout, the Celebrations turnabout, and the tiny turnabout from the Magical Day stamp set. C9 has so many turnabout stamps that you could use them to make themed wrappers by using their more patterned stamps (like In the Garden, Tiny Trees, Umbrella, and so on). You might even be able to work in some of the coordinating dies as cupcake toppers if they’re not too large. You could also make a pattern out of small stamps from a stamp set, or out of large background stamps (my thoughts were Waffle Flower Organic Florals and PinkFresh Studio’s Enchanted Blooms). You could use colorful inks, or heat emboss with clear embossing powder to make the pattern a little more subtle. The possibilities are endless!

  • Stencils would also be a great tool to use! I especially love the Layered Confetti stencil from Simon Says Stamp. Lawn Fawn’s Tropical Leaves stencils would also be super cute, too.

  • My last thought to spice up the cupcake wrapper is to use card front dies. When going through my stash, I pulled out the Stitched Hearts card front die, as well as the Stitched Vines card front die from Concord & 9th. These would look super cute on a wrapper, but if you really want the texture to stand out, be sure to die cut the cupcake wrapper first, and then run it through your die cut machine with the stitched card front. If you use the card front first, then die cut the wrapper, the texture will be more flat. If you have an embossing mat for your die cut machine, this will also help to amp up the texture from the stitched card front dies.

Now to the rest of the details. I cut the card base out of ivory cardstock from Simon Says Stamp, as well as the cake piece. Then I ink blended some Antique Linen Distress Ink over the cake piece to make it more of a golden yellow cake, and I love how it turned out. I die cut the candles out of Ballet Slipper cardstock, and the flames out of Buttercup and Marmalade (all from C9). Once I pieced the candles together, I added some glossy accents to the flames for some shine. I glued the candles underneath the frosting layer, which I cut from regular white cardstock. When I got to this point, I wondered if I should have cut the card base out of white so that the frosting could be ivory colored, but with the embossing that the frosting die has, I think it turned out alright.

By this time I was going back and forth on the embellishments I wanted on the frosting. I was deciding between Studio Katia Rainbow Dots and the new Sugared Soiree embellishment mix from Trinity Stamps. I liked the look of the longer sprinkles a little bit more, but either version would have been nice, or they could even be mixed. Lastly, I die cut the shadow layer from the included ‘Wish’ word die out of the same ivory cardstock, and the word out of a champagne colored glitter paper. I used the Many Birthdays stamp set from Spellbinders to stamp and heat emboss ‘Make A’ in Alabaster White from Brutus Monroe on the same Ballet Slippers cardstock. I absolutely love the Spellbinders stamp set since it has a lot of birthday sentiment options, and a die to cut out a large stamped happy birthday.

That’s all that I’ve got for today! Thanks for stopping by!
