Quick & Easy Christmas Tags—Day 2

Happy Thursday, Crafters!

So it turns out this Quick & Easy Christmas Tags series might be a bit of a short one. I’ve got two more batches of tags to share in this post, but that will probably be it from me this season! I had ordered a couple more small dies to put on tags, but with the holiday slowdown and order volumes, I still haven’t gotten them. But that’s ok! At least I’ll have them for next year or even Christmas in July.

After making my last set of tags, I really fell in love with the Holiday Messages Ornament stamp and die set from Simon Says Stamp. So, I decided to use that stamp and die set again on these tags. This post focuses on two ways to make tags: using patterned paper and using scraps from past cards.

Winter Village Tags

I LOVE how adorable this patterned paper is. I pulled this out of my stash after purchasing it from a locally owned craft store a couple years ago. Unfortunately, this paper is discontinued (called Village from Crate Paper), but I’m sure any village-y patterned paper would work just fine (or I found this on Scrapbook.com)! I started these tags off by die cutting the patterned paper with two of the Farmhouse Tag dies from Ellen Hutson (two of the rectangular and one of the round one), then cutting one rectangular tag with the largest of the Modern Tag dies from Ellen Hutson. Since the modern tag rectangle is flat on all sides, I decided to make a different shape out of it but trimming off the top corners at an angle. I really like that I can change the shape of the tag by trimming off the corners to create a more ‘classic’ tag shape! I also die cut a white backer for each tag to make them stronger/give them a clean white back to write on.

I popped the solid ornament stamp into my mini MISTI and stamped ornaments in Honeysuckle, Cranberry, Peacock and Midnight inks from Concord & 9th. Doing this in my MISTI made it very easy to ‘mass produce’— I was able to stamp an ornament in each corner by rotating my paper. Once the ink was dry, I lined up the sentiment stamps and heat embossed them in Alabaster embossing powder from Brutus Monroe. Next I stamped and heat embossed in Gilded embossing powder the ornament toppers, and once everything was cool, I die cut and assembled the ornaments.

I lined up the ornament topper hole with the hole in the tag and thread some twine through it and made a little loop. I love the layered look these tags have!

Christmas Star Tags

These tags were just as quick and easy as the last! When I use background stamps of any kind, I will only ever stamp them on a 6x6 sheet of paper. This way it allows me to pick the ‘perfect’ spot to die cut for my card or project. Doing so also means that I tend to have scraps laying around, so I decided for these tags to do something with them!

I used the widest and longest of the skinny rectangle tags from the Modern Tag die set and cut them out of the leftover background from my MFT Home For the Holidays card kit card and did the same with the leftover from the green ombre oxide resist card. I think the starry background of the Christmas Star stamp lends itself well to a nativity scene type of card, so I decided to pair it with the sentiment ‘the world rejoices’ from the Holiday Messages Ornament stamp set, and gold heat embossed it on Ivory cardstock from Simon Says Stamp. I die cut the sentiments using the coordinating circle die and glued gold heat embossed ornament toppers onto them. I finished these tags off by looping some twine through them and making a little knot.

I hope you liked these tags! If I can manage to find some inspiration between now and Christmas, I’ll be sure to share it here, but if not, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! 🎄
