Pinkfresh Studio—Poppy Mix Supportive Card + Hot Foiling!

Happy Tuesday, Crafters!

Today I’ve got a sweet card to share that’s packed full of love. A couple of weeks ago, we unexpectedly lost my Grandpa who was the sweetest person in the world. Someone you could lean on for anything and who made a big impact in his community, and whose loss will be greatly felt. Since I’m on the other side of the country from my family, I really wanted to make a special card to send my mom because 1) when is it not a good time to tell your mom you love her, and 2) because I wanted to send more support.

My husband had picked up some Pinkfresh Studio products for me for Christmas, and after picking up the ‘Love You the Most’ foil plate recently, I really wanted to combine the Poppy Mix product suite and the foil plate to create a beautiful, elegant card. However, this card isn’t an original idea of mine, I took inspiration from photos Pinkfresh shared on the product listing.

I started out by heat embossing the Poppy Mix background stamp in Gilded embossing powder from Brutus Monroe on Concord & 9th white cardstock. Any time I plan on ink blending I always use C9 white cardstock since it’s so smooth! I pulled out my Concord & 9th inks and got to blending. I used Ballet Slipper and Honeysuckle inks for the larger flowers and blended on the details in Grapefruit and Cranberry respectively. The tiny little florals were blended in Grapefruit, Honeysuckle, and Poppy, and the greenery was blended in Sprout, Parsley and Evergreen inks.

Once I was done working my way through all the stencils, I cut my panel down using my Waffle Flower nesting dies so that it was 3.75x 5-inches. I knew I wanted to mat the panel on something, and I was originally thinking an Ivory card base, but I decided to use the largest of the Stitched Scalloped Rectangles from Pinkfresh on Ivory cardstock (from Simon Says Stamp) to add a frame detail to the card. I really like the texture this adds to the card. I glued both frames down (the die allows you to split them and have two, but I wanted the feeling of a chunky frame), then die cut another out of plain white cardstock in order to glue the fall out piece in. I could have used the fall out from when I cut out the Ivory frames, but I want to hoard the Ivory cardstock a bit since it’s more ‘special’ than plain white. This adds some stability to where the stenciled panel would be glued, and a hint of dimension since I really didn’t want to add foam tape and make this too bulky.

For the sentiment, I was finally ready to dive into the world of hot foiling. I had picked up my Glimmer hot foil machine back in October when Spellbinders had a really nice sale on it. I had been meaning to bust it out and use it on Christmas cards, but I never got to it. But, I finally popped that bad boy out of the box and used it! I now understand what people say about it being addictive haha! I used the Pinkfresh ‘Love You the Most’ hot foil plate with Rose Gold foil on Spellbinders Glimmer paper, and once the plate was done heating up, I ran it through my (new) Platinum 6 very slowly. I was shocked to have a pretty much perfect result on my first go! Any tiny speckles of overfoiling that I had I was able to remove with a mono sand eraser. Talk about magic!

I glued the stenciled panel down, then glued the foiled greeting down as straight as possible. I love the soft shine the greeting has! To finish the card off, I added a little extra sparkle (which might not have been necessary) with some Rock Candy sequins from Trinity Stamps. For a little extra detail, I stamped the Poppy Mix stamp on the flap of my envelope in Dove ink, it’s a nice soft hint at what’s to come inside the envelope!

I hope you liked this card! I didn’t tweak too much from what was on the Pinkfresh product listing, but I really like how this card turned out. I know my mom will love it, and that’s what matters most to me. Nothing brings me more joy then sending cards out when they’re not expected, so I can’t wait until she gets it.

What are your thoughts about the hot foiling on this project?! I think I’ll be dipping my toes into the water a little bit more with it—I have a couple background hot foil plates that I would love to try out! Until then, I hope you have a great start to your week and I hope to catch you next time with more inspiration!
