Honey Bee Stamps— New Home House Builder Card

Hello friends, and happy Monday!

Today I’m sharing this cute, shaped card that I made for my brother. This May he ended up finding a house he loved, and he closed on it a couple of weeks ago. Once I heard he was under contract, I started working on this card with a die set from Honey Bee Stamps in mind. This House Builder die set is so fun to play with! This die set can make a house shaped card, or a house die cut that would fit on a A2 (or larger) sized card front. Honey Bee has also made add-ons for this die set for Halloween (I just bought this so a card will be coming!), two Christmas ones, and a coffee shop. Not to mention a handful of stencils to add detail. However, at the time of writing this, I noticed that Honey Bee is retiring this die set, all the add ons, and the stencils. So, if you like it run, don’t walk!

Before starting this card, I first looked up some inspiration/examples since I was a little confused on how to make the card a shaped card, so off to YouTube I went. I ended up watching a video from Nichol Spohr and figured out what die makes the card shaped and picked up a tip on the roof (I’ll share that shortly). When putting this card together, I was basing it as close as possible to the house my brother had bought. My card base pieces, the piece that connects the card bases to make it shaped, the gables, and the chimney were all cut from Simon Says Stamp Ivory cardstock. I ink blended some Antique Linen Distress Ink over the Salvaged Brick stencil from Honey Bee on the card base piece, the chimney, and did the same with the gables using the Square Shingles stencil. From a variety pack of cardstock, I die cut the roof out of a deep brown, and the roofs for the gables and the chimney top out of a craft cardstock. This adds a bit of contrast so that the gables don’t get lost in the roof. When the roof is die cut, it’s a smooth panel, and an awesome idea I picked up from Nichol Spohr is to take the roof piece and score it in your scoring tool to give it some dimension and to make it look shingled. I also did this on the gables for continuity, but I love the texture this brings to the house!

Next I cut the window frames, the inner windowpanes (including the door), and the picket fence out of regular white cardstock. To add a little bit of color to the windowpanes, I lightly blended some Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide on the cardstock. In the photo it looks like this color is a little washed out, but it’s there when you see it in person. I die cut the curtains out of Sea Glass speckled patterned paper from Concord & 9th, as well as the window boxes out of Sea Glass cardstock. The other cardstock I used from Concord & 9th was Parsley for the window box bushes, and Cranberry for the front door. The cardstock for the cement steps, front bushes, and the small red flowers were scraps I had from a variety pack of cardstock, and the door handle was cut from metallic gold cardstock from Michael’s. This card was fun and easy to put together, and you can truly customize it any way you want!

Now onto sentiments. Since this was my first ‘new home’ card that I ever made, I scoured Simon Says Stamp for some fitting stamp sentiments. The set that I found that I really liked was Right at Home from My Favorite Things. This set has a nice variety of sentiments, and I absolutely love the font/script mix of each stamp. I stamped the inside of this card with “congratulations on your new home” and called the project done.

I hope you liked this sweet card, and that you have a great rest of your day! Catch you next time!
