Altenew—Elegant Summer Birthday Card
Hello friends! Welcome back to the blog!
Today I’m sharing this beautiful card I made for my husband’s grandma’s 95th birthday. I used a variety of products from Altenew, Pinkfresh Studio, Concord & 9th, and paper from Recollections (the Michael’s brand). I love how this card turned out, and I especially adore the floral patterned paper. If you can’t tell based on my logo, I am obsessed with florals, so anytime I can squeeze them into a project, I’m a happy girl.
When I started working on this card, I had just purchased most of the blanket stitched dies from Pinkfresh Studio, so I knew I wanted to incorporate those into this project. I had the Altenew Celebrate with Cake die set in my stash for a bit, and I hadn’t gotten around to using it yet, so I decided now was the time. I knew I wanted this card to be a bit more elegant and polished, so these two products together felt perfect.
While making this card, I really fell in love with the cake die set. I think it has a great value for money (21 dies for $24), especially since this die set could be used for more than just birthdays. This would also be perfect for weddings, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, or any celebration where cake would be involved. I also love that you can decorate the cake with numbers, hearts, stars, branches, or piped frosting. The only thing I wish is that they would have added a couple of candles to this die set, but I might be able to find some in my stash that would be scaled appropriately.
So, back to the details. I cut the cake parts out of regular ivory cardstock, and the drippy frosting out of Grapefruit cardstock from Concord & 9th. If you didn’t know, I am obsessed with Concord & 9th cardstock, they have a wonderful variety of colors, and the cardstock has a great weight to it (not the mention you get 12 sheets for $6.95, which is about the price of Hero Arts & Lawn Fawn cardstock, but you get 2 more sheets of paper with C9).
After assembling the cake and frosting pieces, I die cut the cake stand out of metallic gold cardstock, and the numbers 9 and 5 out of a peachy/orange glitter cardstock. The color of the glitter paper was as close as I could get to the frosting, and I think it turned out well! I die cut ivory cardstock using the largest blanket stitched oval from PinkFresh Studio and glued the cake stand down, as well as the cake and numbers.
When I got to this point, I wasn’t sure what patterned paper I was going to use. The one I chose (and absolutely love) is from a 12x12 paper pad from Recollections called “The Avenue”. I love that it has gold foiled leaves that play well with the cake stand, and the color story is very similar to the frosting on the cake. I used the largest blanket stitched rectangle die from Pinkfresh to add a little bit of a finishing touch and to make it cohesive with the oval.
For the inside of the card, I used the sentiment “Joyeux Anniversaire” (Happy Birthday) from the stamp set Birdie Brown Greetings Galore- French from My Favorite Things. My husband’s whole family is French, his dad’s side lives in France, and his mom’s side lives in Montréal, so of course I had to use a French sentiment. It would be awesome if more companies made sentiments in different languages. Do you know of any? If so, let me know in the comments below, I would really appreciate it!
I hope you enjoyed this cheery birthday card, I’ll catch you next time!
