Ellen Hutson—Scattered Eggs Easter Card
Welcome back to the blog!
Today I’ve got another Easter card for you, but this one is a little bit more work than the one I shared Tuesday. This card focuses pretty heavily on the Elegant Eggs stamp set and Essential Eggs die set, both from Ellen Hutson, but also sneaks in a couple other products.
I started this card out by die cutting a bunch of the smaller egg dies in the Essential Eggs die set so that I could visualize the pattern/design of this card. Originally, I planned on having an alcohol ink background and a white cardstock overlay with eggs die cut out of it, but I couldn’t execute that idea, so I pivoted to this card. Since I wanted these cards to be pastel, I went back to Distress Oxides, but this time only three colors— Salvaged Patina, Squeezed Lemonade, and Saltwater Taffy.
I chose those three colors because I wanted a soft rainbow rather than a very bright, saturated, primary colored rainbow had I used colors like Mermaid Lagoon, Squeezed Lemonade, and Picked Raspberry. At first, I thought this card would just be a bunch of rainbow colored eggs die cut from a fully blended rainbow panel, but I decided to blend on a smaller scale, so I could get a full rainbow on eggs.
After cutting out a couple rainbow eggs, I decided to use the Elegant Eggs stamp set on white cardstock to add a little bit of variety. I stamped some of these stamps using the same oxides as I did when blending, but also did some ombre/blended stamping on them to pull back to the rainbow theme. With all my eggs ready to go, I added an additional die cut behind them for some dimension, then ran an A2-sized piece of white cardstock through my die cut machine with the Stitched Polka Dot cover plate die from Concord & 9th. I like this pattern for the background because it’s playful and adds a nice texture to the card. I figured out where my eggs were going, then glued them down.
For the sentiment, I pulled out the Ears to You stamp set and some heavyweight vellum. I decided to black heat emboss the ‘hippity hoppity happy Easter’ sentiment in Simon Says Stamp Ultrafine Black embossing powder. I love this black embossing powder, it leaves you with such a nice juicy, shiny embossing. I cut down my vellum sentiment to be 5.5-inches long so that I could glue the ends behind my egg panel. I ended up scoring the piece of vellum where it wraps around to the back of the card to try and make the sentiment sit as flat as possible on the card front, but I’m not so sure that made a difference!
Once I got the sentiment on, I felt like this card was lacking something. I die cut a couple smaller eggs and squeezed them in, then decided sequins might do the trick. I pulled out some extra sequins I had leftover from C9 Summer Camp 2022 and laid them out in groupings, trying to make the whole card feel balanced in terms of placement and number. With sequins glued down, I called this card done!
What do you think of this card?! I’m torn on how I feel about it! I’ve had moments where I’ve loved in, then others where I feel a little insecure about it. I know the recipient will love it no matter what, so I guess I don’t have anything to really worry about!
Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I will be posting one more Easter card (likely Saturday morning PDT), so be on the lookout for that if you need another quick Easter card! 😊
