Concord & 9th— In the Classroom Holiday Joy Card
Hi friends, happy Friday!
It’s been a quiet week for me this week, my husband got home from a trip from France this past Sunday night, so we’ve been soaking up some time together while he’s getting over the jet lag. But I’m back today and feeling a bit recharged, and super excited to share this festive card with you!
The main product in this card is from the Concord & 9th In the Classroom: Holiday Edition event, so if you were not in the event, you will be unable to get this product. However, I’m sure you could find something in your stash to replicate this card!
I started this card out by ink blending with the Holiday Joy Stencil Pack. The front side of the letters were ink blended in Grapefruit, the inner detail was blended in Cranberry, and the shadow on the word was blended in Evergreen ink. I love these three colors together, especially what Grapefruit adds to the traditional Christmas colors. Once I was done blending, I die cut the ‘joy’ with the coordinating die and got ready to stamp the inner details on the Cranberry section. This took a bit of practice to line up, so I would highly suggest lining it up and checking your alignment by stamping on acetate or extra stamp packaging. This saved me from having to restart!
Once I had the j, o and y detail stamps lined up, I stamped them with Versamark ink and embossed them with Gilded embossing powder from Brutus Monroe. I love the gold accent to this word, it’s beautiful and it brings extra festive cheer to it.
At this point I got to work on the background. When I was making the ‘joy’, I was picturing in my mind a background of thick stripes in coordinating cardstock colors. I decided to use Grapefruit, Clover, and Poppy cardstocks and used the Snowfall card front die on each to have textured stripes. Seeing the ‘joy’ on top of the stripes, I decided I would cut them shorter to give a 1/4-inch border to the card front so that the color and design wouldn’t be too overwhelming. I cut a piece of cardstock down to 3.75 x 5 inches to use as my template to glue my stripes onto. I cut each color of cardstock into 1.25-inch strips and glued them down so that the pattern was seamless across the three stripes.
I was thinking of just gluing the ‘joy’ down, but I figured it really could use some greenery around it so the card didn’t feel too overwhelming to the eye, but to also add another festive touch. I die cut the holly leaves included in the Holiday Joy die set out of Evergreen and Parsley cardstocks and used the pine needle die from the Boughs & Holly die set and did the same. I varied the pattern and color of greenery and glued it down. Once I had that done, I decided I wanted to add some white berries, so I used the berries die from the Holiday Joy die set and cut it three times out of C9 white glitter paper. I love the pop and sparkle these bring to the card.
I glued the colorful panel on an A2 sized piece of Wheat cardstock, and I think it looks really nice together! I thought I was going to use a white card front but I changed my mind to Wheat at the last minute. To finish the card off, I completed my sentiment by gold heat embossing ‘love and’ and ‘from all of us’ which came from the Holiday Joy stamp set. I used the coordinating sentiment die to cut both of them out and popped the ‘from all of us’ on top of the bottom section of the ‘y’. For the ‘love and’ I decided to give the sentiment a little bit more of a tail to make it look sort of like a ribbon unfurling…I’m not so sure I achieved that, but I like how this turned out.
That wraps up my first project using some products from the In the Classroom: Holiday Edition event! What do you think about this card? It turned out so different from what I was originally planning, but I like the fun, festive pop it has to it. As always, thanks for stopping by the blog, I hope to catch you next time!
