Concord & 9th—Honeycomb Quilt Top Dies
Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope your week has been a good one!
I’m wrapping this week up with these sweet cards I created using the new Honeycomb Quilt Top die from Concord & 9th. And let’s face it, this is probably the closest I’ll ever get to quilting, but I think I had just as much fun. I really enjoyed creating with this die set and how versatile it is. It’s great as a plain textured background, but also lots of fun to die cut hexagons out of a variety of colors and patterns to make your own patterned card front. Scroll on down to see how I made each of these cards!
This was the first card I created with the die set, and I love how soft and sweet it is! This could definitely work as a Valentine’s card, or a card just to tell someone how much you love them. I started this project off die cutting the card front die out of plain white cardstock. I used the three hexagon dies and die cut hexagons out of Ballet Slipper, Honeysuckle, Grapefruit, and Sorbet cardstocks, and one of the heart cut out hexagons in each color.
Usually I’m a big overthinker when it comes to making my own patterns (hence why I haven’t completed any card fronts using the Geometric or Pinwheel Quilt Top dies yet), but this one came together super easy for me! My first row was the bottom one, where I focused on pairing the light and dark shades of each duo. From there I just played with the order of colors and glued them down.
I pulled the ‘love you so’ sentiment from my stash, which was die cut from Grapefruit for the words, and the shadow layer out of a white panel die cut with the Stitched Vines card front. I like that this brings a subtle stitched aspect to the greeting to tie it into the background. I finished the card off by taking the extra hearts from the heart cut out hexagons and placed them randomly. I really like how this card turned out, and how clean and simple it is!
Now this card, I think it’s my favorite 😍. It makes me so happy just looking at it! For this one, I really wanted to use the Pick a Pattern stamp set that was sold as a bundle with the Honeycomb Quilt Top dies. Since I really liked the color scheme from the previous card, I decided to stick with it again for this one. I stamped the dots pattern on Ballet Slipper cardstock using Grapefruit ink, the stripe pattern on Grapefruit cardstock using Sorbet ink, the hearts pattern on Sorbet cardstock in Honeysuckle ink, as well as part of the floral pattern on white cardstock in Ballet Slipper ink. Those were the main patterns that I was going to base the card front on.
From here, I went through my cardstock stash and die cut a white striped Grapefruit cardstock and a Stardust with white polka dot cardstock from the Garden Party patterned paper pack from C9, as well as the Grapefruit and small white polka dot pattern from a C9 Summer Camp exclusive patterned paper. Besides the regular colors of cardstock, to add a little bit of shine, I die cut hexagons from a gold stripe background I had left over from my Triple Step Hi cards and I really like what this added to the card! Placement wise, I didn’t have any rhyme or reason and I laid colors and patterns out while trying not to have something too similar next to one another.
To finish off this card, and after a little bit of going back and forth on a sentiment, I settled on the large ‘hey hi hello’ greeting from the Hello Wishes stamp set. I love the font and I think it goes nicely with the playfulness of the background! I had also thought about using the ‘hi’ from the Everyday Sayings dies (or the Triple Step Hi), as well as any of the greetings from the Big on You stamp set. Any of these would look wonderful with the background, but I really liked how this sentiment filled up the card a little more. I white heat embossed the sentiment on Stardust cardstock and decided to stamp a sub greeting in Stardust ink on plain white cardstock. I’ve been really enjoying mirroring my color schemes when it comes to main sentiments and sub sentiments lately.
I hope you enjoyed these two cards! I’m excited because I have a family member in mind to send the second card to since she is a quilter and I think it would make her day (and I miss her so). I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to catch you with a new project on Monday!
