Altenew—Lovely Envelope Valentine’s Card

Hi Crafters, welcome back to the blog!

Today I’ve got a sweet Valentine’s Day card to share with you that uses a mix of products from 3 companies, but focuses on the Lovely Envelope die set from Altenew. I really like this die set, it comes with heart and flower dies that you can stuff your envelope full of—a perfect multipurpose die set! This is my second time using this die set (I should be using it more), and last time I used it I had made a thank you card with it (this was before the blog so I’m not sure I have photos of it).

To start this card off, I die cut the envelope dies out of plain white cardstock for the back piece, and the colorful xo pattern from Concord & 9th’s Be Mine paper pack for the front piece. These patterned papers are so cute and I love that they coordinate with C9 cardstock colors! With that in mind, I die cut the three heart dies out of Poppy, Ballet Slipper, Aqua Sky, and Grapefruit cardstocks.

At this point I had the idea to glue this envelope to a panel of Ballet Slipper cardstock that I would die cut with the Quilted card front die from Concord & 9th. This background die adds so much texture to the card. I glued the envelope down doing my best to center it and keep it in the upper two-thirds of the card front. Once it was glued down, I got to arranging the hearts coming out of it. I was inspired by the arrangement Altenew showed on their packaging, so I followed that pretty closely.

For the sentiment, I used the new Love You Always stamp and die set from The Stamp Market. I chose to use ‘Lots of Love’ to keep the card flexible on who it could be given to. I white heat embossed the sentiment on black cardstock, then cut an additional black cardstock layer for some dimension. To glue down my sentiments with ease, I used the washi tape trick. If you haven’t heard of this, you take a piece of washi tape and stick it to your clothes for a second to make it a little less sticky, then you can pick up your perfectly placed die cuts and glue them down with ease. It’s like the cheaper/smaller version of the Press’n’Seal trick!

With my card basically complete, I felt like something was missing. So I decided to add some sparkle with my tried-and-true Rock Candy sequins. I had thought about using either glossy accents or my wink of stella pen to add some shine to the hearts, but I was a bit antsy to get these pictures taken while I had some good lighting—so know that those are good options too! I ended up spreading out the sequins so it looked like they were flying out of the envelope with the hearts and added some around the sentiment to tie everything together.

That wraps up my first Valentine’s card of the year! I’ve got a bit of product I’m excited to play with still, but if there are things you want to see from me, let me know down below! Thanks for stopping by the blog today, I hope to catch you next time with more inspiration!
