Spooky Graveyard Halloween Card

Hi, Crafters!

Today I’m back with another Halloween card, though this one is definitely spookier than the last two! Last year I had purchased the Spooky Eyes 6x6 background stamp from Simon Says Stamp, but I hadn’t gotten around to making Halloween cards. I actually stamped the background in black ink and clear heat embossed over it, and it’s been stored in my drawer ever since. Well, after successfully making Halloween cards the other day, I had that background panel sitting on my desk, and I really wanted to do something with it this year.

A fun idea I had was to use an eclipse technique on it with big, bold alphabet dies, but I’m really trying to be more selective with craft supplies I’m purchasing lately, so I nixed that idea. Instead I thought, what would go really well with creepy eyes surrounded by darkness? 🤔A spooky cemetery, of course! I decided to get my Scooby-Doo on and make the perfect, creepy cemetery that you would definitely feel like you had eyes watching you if you came here after dark.

I started this card off by using one of my A2 Layers dies from Waffle Flower to cut down a piece of Concord & 9th white cardstock (you want this if you’re ink blending!) so that there would be a chunky frame of spooky eyes behind it. I started blending Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide onto the middle of the panel of white cardstock. Once I was satisfied with the amount of pigment on the cardstock, I blended on Wilted Violet Distress Oxide below the Blueprint Sketch and worked the two colors to get a seamless blend. I took the Wilted Violet down toward the bottom of the cardstock so that there was enough space to add the ground. Lastly, I blended on Black Soot Distress Oxide above the Blueprint Sketch section and worked the two colors together for a dark, seamless blend. I looove the way the sky turned out 😍. To add in the ground to this scene, I lightly blended some Black Soot to the bottom of the cardstock.

The rest of this card came together by chance. When I was brainstorming, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do, so I was cleaning up my craft room. I have an unfinished haunted house card with two fence die cuts that when I saw them, I knew it would be perfect for this card. So, I actually ended up using dies from the Haunted House Add-on to the House Builder die set from Honey Bee Stamps. The fence pieces, tree and bats were die cut out of C9 black cardstock, and the gravestones out of C9 Dove cardstock. I die cut the ghosts out of plain white cardstock, and colored the face fall out with a black alcohol marker. I hand drew the moon on a circle die cut, trimmed it to get the perfect shape, then colored it with a light yellow alcohol marker. I glued all of my die cuts on and finished up the panel with a sentiment from the CZ Design Reverse Halloween sentiment strips.

Once my scene panel was completed, I decided I wanted to add some color to the eyes in the background. I took two shades of yellow markers and one light yellow-green marker and colored most of the eyes in while leaving some white. I really like how these eyes add contrast and color to the scene, it really makes everything pop.

Hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze in some more Halloween cards before the holiday arrives! I don’t have a lot of Halloween product, but I’ve got my eye on a few things.

Thanks for stopping by the blog, I hope to catch you next time! 😊
