Honey Bee Stamps— Car Show Birthday Card

Happy Wednesday, and welcome back to the blog!

Today I’ve got another birthday card to share, and this time it’s a clean and simple, masculine one. I made this card for my uncle, and I had actually bought the Car Show stamp set from Honey Bee last fall. My uncle has a ‘69 Chevy Chevelle and I when I saw this stamp set I thought of him right away. However, my dad told me when I was making this card that the car on the front is Chevy Nova and not a Chevelle. I was crushed! But my sweet aunt who knew I was making this card for my uncle told me that it was the thought that counted, so I stuck with my ideas and finished the card. I’m so glad I did, my uncle absolutely loved it when he got it.

So anyway, onto the details. I started this card out stamping the car image on some white cardstock from Concord & 9th (this cardstock is amazing) using Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink (which is safe for coloring with alcohol markers). Then I colored the image in using three shades of red markers, and three shades of grey markers. I tried my best to add shadow where it would be on a car sitting at this angle in the sun, and I don’t think I did too bad! I’ve never colored a car before so there was quite a bit of overthinking involved in this one haha. After I finished coloring, I fussy cut the image out. When I was originally brainstorming about this card, I knew I wanted to incorporate an action wobbler into it, so I popped the image on a wobbler. This was my first time using action wobblers, and I think it adds a really fun touch to this card.

I die cut a panel of Midnight cardstock from Concord & 9th and used the Chevron Quilt Top die (also from C9) to add a bit of visual interest and texture to the background panel. After figuring out where I would put the car, I wanted to break the chevron panel up, so I used a piece of 6x6 patterned paper from the Great Outdoors paper pack from Honey Bee. I trimmed the paper down to fit on the lower third of the card, then cut a 0.5 inch strip of gold cardstock to cover the seam of the patterned paper, and to add a nice finishing touch.

To finish up the front of the card, I white heat embossed a sentiment from the You’re a Classic stamp set (also from Honey Bee) on black cardstock and cut it out using a rectangle from the Nesting Rectangles die set from Waffle Flower. I popped this up on the card base using strips of paper behind it (this is a great Jennifer McGuire hack, it holds up in the mail well compared to foam tape) and dug out sequins to add some shine. I ended up using silver sequins (leftover from C9 Summer Camp) and played around with their placement. I wasn’t sure what the arrangement was going to turn out to be, but it kind of turned out like a cloud of sparkle around the car, and I honestly love it.

I hope you enjoyed this clean and simple, masculine birthday card. Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll catch you next time!
