Concord & 9th— Whimsical Wings Bundle
Happy Tuesday, Friends!
Today I’m sharing a card featuring one of the products from Concord & 9th’s November 2022 release! This bundle, called the Whimsical Wings bundle, is amazing!!! I absolutely love it. I love the style of the art, I love the stencils included, and I am head over heels for the multi-step butterfly stamp set. This bundle really allows you to go so many different directions— the dies allow you to create a plain cardstock butterfly, you can die cut your stamped butterfly, and you can even create a delicate stitched butterfly. Butterflies can be so multipurpose for cards too! You can use them for sympathy, birthdays, spring cards, baby cards, Mother’s Day…. and the list goes on! This product is really well designed, and I love that it feels similar to how the Triple-Step Hi, Triple-Step Heart, and Triple- Step Autumn Leaf were designed.
This is my first project (but believe me, I have more ideas brewing, so stay tuned) with this bundle, but I truly think it’s a winner! If someone was dipping their toes into the world of stamping, I would definitely recommend it. This is my second time making this card (I changed my mind on stenciling colors), so I have a tip on placement of the butterfly stamps!
I started this card off by stenciling the outer floral details using stencils 1-3. I love that the stencil pack has 6 stencils total which makes a full folk art style background, but you can stencil 1-3 to leave a gap to stamp your butterfly in. I love the thought put into this! I stenciled the vines in Sea Glass ink on stencil 1, on stencil 2 I used Stardust for all the flowers and Midnight ink for all the other details. On the final stencil, I used a heavier hand with the Stardust and Midnight inks, but also incorporated some Peacock ink on the four little buds.
Once my stenciling was complete, I got to work on stamping the butterfly. You can stamp the wings first, then line up the body and stamp it, but I had some issues with getting the wings positioned perfectly without having the body stamped. So, I decided to stamp the body first for this card to see if it made stamping the wings easier, and I feel it did! The wings have a bit of an alignment guide to them since they’re designed to leave space for the body, so I stamped the body in Midnight ink and lined up the upper wing. To make sure I wouldn’t ruin my project, I did a test run by stamping on a piece of extra packaging I had sitting around. Both the upper and lower wings were stamped in Peacock ink and stamped twice to get a rich impression. Now, you might say, “Amanda, your wings are not lined up, what are you talking about?” and to that I would say triple check the position of your paper in your MISTI!! When I removed the acetate, I must have shifted my paper a bit, so the lower wing wasn’t as spot on as it was when I stamped on the acetate. When I was closing the door, I was thinking “wouldn’t it suck if this is not aligned now?”, guess I spoke it into existence haha!
Once I had the wings stamped, I did stamp the body once more (for a total of 3 times) since a little bit of Peacock ink was slightly noticeable on top of it. I lined up the lower wing detail stamps and stamped those in Midnight ink as well. I love how the butterfly looks without the inside of the wings stamped, but I chose to stamp the leaves in Sea Glass and the flowers on the wings in Stardust. I LOVE this color combination, and I’m happy I continued it in the background.
To finish this card off, I white heat embossed the curvy ‘a little paper hug’ sentiment on Midnight cardstock. I die cut it using the coordinating sentiment banner die and cut out some extra white banners to stack under it for dimension. After thinking all along that this sentiment would go in the middle of the butterfly, I changed my mind last minute and popped it on the card below the butterfly. That way, the butterfly is on display in all of its glory!
I hope you enjoyed this card and that I passed on some inspiration to you today! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving however you may be celebrating it, and I’ll catch you Friday with more inspiration! 😊🦃
