Concord & 9th—Triangle Background: 1 Color Palette, 3 Cards
Hi, Crafters!
I hope you had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend if you’re also in the U.S.! My husband and I managed to get some yard work done, and I got started on planting some flowers (while also buying more 😅). A weekend well spent, but one that was not in the craft room!
After making a Father’s Day card last week with the Triangle Background die, I really wanted to play with the die set again. It’s so much fun and is pretty therapeutic to use (much like how I imagine people feel when working on diamond paintings!), so I got to work picking out a color palette. I created this color palette with inspiration from this pin using Peacock, Powder, Lemongrass, Nectar, Clementine, and Ballet Slipper cardstocks.
Hexagon Hi Card
This is the first card I made with this color palette, and I think it’s cute! I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with the triangles, but I settled on this pattern. I decided to work backwards on my color palette and start off with Ballet Slipper for half of a hexagon, then went down the line with Clementine, Nectar, and so on. Once I got to Peacock, I repeated the color palette starting back up with Ballet Slipper.
I decided to crop this card down a bit with my A2 Layers dies before gluing on the triangles, so the white cardstock is 3.5 x 4.75-inches, which would give me a great border. I glued down the triangles and trimmed off the excess. Save these pieces because they can be used on other cards with this background! For the sentiment, I pulled out the Just Say More die set and die cut the ‘hi’ out of one layer of matte gold cardstock, three layers of plain white cardstock, and the shadow layer out of vellum. I squeezed glue on the back of the whole vellum piece (smeared it out with my fingers) and stuck it down on the card front. I did this instead of only putting glue behind the letters because I’ve noticed when I have vellum shadows lately, they’ve been curling up a little and it was driving me nuts, so I gave this a try! I popped my white card front up on some foam tape and stuck it down on some Ivory cardstock. I love the Ivory cardstock with this color palette!
Striped Just a Note Card
I enjoyed putting this card together! I started off trying to make a cascading pattern with all the colors in the color palette, but ended up with three stripes when things weren’t working out. I glued down a row of Peacock triangles at the bottom of the card front, then added a row of Powder above it, then one in Lemongrass. I love these three colors together! It makes a nice masculine color palette, or just a great palette of blues and a ‘green’.
I love the impact the three stripes have on this card, so I decided to keep the rest of it really simple by only adding a sentiment. I pulled out the ‘just a note’ die from the Just Saying die set from Concord & 9th, and die cut it just like the previous card— three layers of white, one of matte gold, and a shadow in vellum. I adhered the sentiment onto the card front in the same way (smearing glue on the vellum), then popped the card front on a top folding notecard. I thought about adding embellisments to this card, but there was something about it that made me like it as-is. What would you have done?
Beach Ball Celebration Card
I’m affectionately calling this card the beachball card because while those definitely are hexagons, to me all I see are multi-colored beach balls! I took a bit of inspiration from Jennifer McGuire for the layout on this one (check out her post with this die set here—it’s amazing!) since I was feeling a little stuck on what pattern to make with this last card. And if I’m honest, I think this one might be my favorite out of the three, it’s just so fun!
I started out playing with the triangles figuring out what color order I wanted them in. I didn’t want the orientation to be in order of how they are on my swatch, so I eventually landed on this layout making sure that the soft and saturated colors weren’t all on one side so things would feel balanced. I glued on my bottom row first, then left a row empty to nestle a sentiment into. I added another row and glued it down identically to the bottom one. After laying out the top row the same as the other two, I looked back at Jennifer McGuire’s post and decided I wanted to do what she did and stagger the top row. This led to having two half-triangles on both ends of the row, and I think this looks great! It keeps the pattern going, and I think looks a lot better than it would had I left the top row the same as the others.
I decided to use the ‘celebrate you’ die from the Just Say More die set for the sentiment here, and cut it out similarly to the other two cards except instead of three layers of plain white cardstock, I only used two. I glued the sentiment down the same as the other two by smearing glue onto the back of the vellum shadow. I could have left the shadow off, but I decided to use it to be consistent with the previous cards, but to also soften the stitched lines behind the sentiment. At this point, you could have called the card done, but I wanted a little bit more gold shine. I originally pulled out some Gold Coin embellishments from Trinity Stamps with the intention of gluing the smallest sequins to the center of the beach balls, but I changed my mind because I wanted the gold of the sentiment to match perfectly. The golds weren’t that different in color, but I was being picky haha! Since I wasn’t sure I had a die to create small circles, I almost die cut the reinforcer die from the Swatchbook die set and used the fallout circles as my embellishment. But, going through my stash, I pulled out the Celebrations die set from C9 Summer Camp 2022 and die cut the confetti die out of the same matte gold cardstock. I really love the shine the little gold confetti add to this card!
I hope you liked these three cards! I had a lot of fun playing around with the Triangle Background die, it truly is super versatile! And speaking of Concord & 9th, are you going to Summer Camp with them this year?! I am, and I’m bunking in the Lemongrass Cabin 😎. Let me know what cabin you’re in down below! I’m so excited for the event!
Thanks for stopping by the blog today, I hope to catch you next time with more inspiration! 😊
