Concord & 9th—Fall/Thanksgiving Cards Using their Fall Release!
Wow am I soooo overdue for sharing these 😅. I had all the intentions of sharing these cards as videos, but at this point it’s time to throw in the towel and share them as blog posts! As you might know, Concord & 9th invited me to be a guest designer this past August, and I was sooo thrilled!!! I got to create a plethora of fall feeling cards which put me over the moon since it’s my favorite time of year. So without further ado, here are my fall beauties! Some are quicker than others!
Quick & easy
We’re going to ease into fall crafting with this guy. What makes a card quicker to put together than patterned paper, a textured background, and a large sentiment?! Nothing haha! When I got the Harvest Home Patterned Paper Pack, I was in loooove with the fall plaid they had. You know how plaid is so comfy and cozy? Well my heart felt that warm and cozy glow with this paper, so I had to use it! Since I wanted this specific strip of patterned paper (it incorporated all the colors in the pattern and had those thick, beautiful Spiced Cider and Cayenne lines) I decided on going with a landscape orientation for this card. The ‘thankful for you’ greeting could definitely work with either orientation, but I was loving how everything was looking here.
Since I was basing this card off that plaid paper, I decided to pull in a Wheat card front, but I wanted to use the Stitched Leaves card front die on it to really bring in that fall goodness. With that ready to go, I decided I wanted a nice transition line from the patterned paper strip (which is about ~ 3/4-inch), so I cut a 1/4-inch strip of matte gold cardstock for that purpose. This marries the patterned paper with the Wheat card front so beautifully and it really brings in a bit of warmth to the card. At this point, I chose to make the shadow layer to my ‘thankful for you’ greeting out of Spiced Cider cardstock, and the words out of white cardstock. I love how this looks! This wouldn’t be a combo I would usually think of, but it’s so perfect for fall! Lastly, to finish this card off with a little bit more shine, I die cut the leaves and acorn dies from the Playful Pumpkin die set out of the same matte gold cardstock and scattered them around where I would place my greeting. I wanted these leaves/acorns to feel like they were falling from a tree or blowing in the wind, so I tried my best to make things feel random yet balanced. Once I was happy with them, I popped my sentiment up on thin foam squares and stuck it in the middle of the card.
A little bit more complex…
If the last card gave you the warm fuzzies like it did to me, this one will take it up a notch! This card is slightly more ‘put together’ than the last one, and I absolutely love it! Since I was really loving Spiced Cider cardstock and the Stitched Leaves card front die, I decided to pair the two up. I really wanted to use the ‘hello autumn’ sentiment from the Playful Pumpkins stamp set, so I had to figure out how to build my card. I remembered the oval die in the Friendly Florals die set and pulled it out and I die cut it out of some Ivory cardstock from Simon Says Stamp. I really wanted to anchor the oval on the Spiced Cider card front, so I pulled in some paper strips— two that were Nutmeg (1/4-inch) and one that was matte gold (and was maybe a little thinner than 1/2-inch).
From there, I die cut the small leaves and acorns from the Playful Pumpkin die set out of Sunflower, Cranberry, Spiced Cider, Wheat and Nutmeg cardstocks. I die cut the pumpkins out of Stardust and Clementine cardstocks and added some ink blending to the edges of the pumpkins in the coordinating ink. I laid the leaves out on the cardstock to feel like a pile of leaves the pumpkins were sitting on and glued them down. I popped the Clementine pumpkin up on thin foam squares and the Stardust one up on thick foam squares and popped them on top of the leaves. I heat embossed the ‘hello autumn’ sentiment on Wheat cardstock with white embossing powder and cut it out with the coordinating dies. I die cut an extra ‘autumn’ out of Wheat cardstock for a bit of extra dimension as well. To finish the card off, I decided a bit more shine was needed, so I pulled out the clear sequins from C9’s Neutral Sequin Assortment, and I think they add the perfect touch! This is definitely one of my favorite fall cards.
More pumpkins and plaid!
This card was one that I could see in my head and thought it would be perfect, but with it physically existing now, I’m not so sure haha! I do love how the Pumpkin Patch Turnabout looks tone-on-tone on Wheat cardstock though! I first got started on this card by making my Turnabout panel, I decided to clear heat emboss all four turns on my Wheat cardstock, but you could definitely just stamp them with Wheat ink too! I was originally planning on trimming .25-inch off each side of my panel and mounting it on an A2-sized Wheat card front, but once I saw how that was looking, I didn’t like it as much. It all felt just a little too flat to me. So, I decided to pull in a strip of the plaid patterned paper from the Harvest Home paper pack and glue it along the bottom of my Wheat card front. I trimmed a half inch off the bottom of my Turnabout panel and glued it down.
By this point in my guest designing crafting, I was enthralled by Spiced Cider and Cayenne, so I knew I had to have stamped pumpkins in those colors. I wanted a third pumpkin to balance out the scene, so I decided to stamp another pumpkin in Pebble ink. This worked out because then I used all three sizes of pumpkins from the Playful Pumpkins stamp set. I wanted a fun sentiment and I remembered the ‘hey there pumpkin’ from the Freshly Picked stamp set and knew I had to use it! I decided to make the focal point of this card a circle so that I could heat emboss my sentiment on it and cluster my pumpkins around it. I glued the large Spiced Cider pumpkin down, popped the Pebble pumpkin up on thin foam squares, then popped the Cayenne pumpkin up on thick foam squares.
One last card!
For this last card, I really wanted to play with the Pumpkin Patch Turnabout again, but this time with more color! I stamped all four turns in Spiced Cider, Nutmeg, Artichoke and Pebble inks on white cardstock and I decided I wanted to cut my panel out with the stitched heart die from the Triple Step Blooming Heart die set. A common thing that I’ve done when I use Triple Step Blooming Heart die cuts is that I slap them on a card front that I’ve used a card front texture die on, add a sentiment and call it done. So, I decided to just that with this card and run a piece of Spiced Cider cardstock through my die cut machine with the Stitched Leaves card front die. I loooove this card front die, it’s so pretty and so perfect for fall (or all year)!
I die cut a couple extra hearts to glue behind the Turnabout stamped heart for dimension, then got to work on my sentiment. This time I decided to white heat emboss the ‘so very thankful’ sentiment on Wheat cardstock, it’s a perfect neutral for fall cards (or in general) and it felt right to use here. I thought the Turnabout panel was feeling a little overwhelming to my eyes, so I added a layer of vellum over it. I smeared glue all over the back of the vellum die cut so that the adhesive wouldn’t be so noticable, if you have a Xyron sticker machine, that would work too! I added the sentiment onto the heart, then added the heart to my Spiced Cider card front. I was ready to call this card done, but I thought it needed a little something so I pulled out the Neutrals Sequin Assortment again and added some gold sequins.
Well, that wraps up my fall and Thanksgiving cards! I’m so bummed that it took me this long to get these posted, so I hope this will inspire you for your crafting next year! Thanks for stopping by the blog today, I’m so glad you’re here! 😊
